Artist: Jack Thomas
Born and raised in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, Jack Thomas spent his childhood in a landscape artist’s dream; however, it is the works of Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollack that have most affected Jack’s art. After graduating from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, which he attended on a full scholarship, Jack went to work for the Carnegie Museum in downtown Pittsburgh and worked as a layout artist for magazines. Jack’s first show came at the Forbes Street Gallery in Pittsburgh. Also a member of the gallery, Jack’s paintings hung in the gallery from 1977 to 1978- this period included several group shows as well as a one man show dedicated to Jack. Jack entered and sold piece at the Three Rivers Art Show in 1979, 1981, and 1984. He was awarded Honorable Mention for painting in 1983 at the Twin Lakes Art Show, in which he participated for four consecutive years, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. In 1987 Jack was awarded first place for a drawing at the Art in the Park show in Vandergrift and an Honorable Mention for drawing at the Holiday Park Art Show a year later. Since that time Jack has practiced his art freelancing murals and custom painting motorcycles.
